Special attention is given to the care for the environment and energy saving. The energy efficient construction complies with the highest environmental protection standards. It will include a solar power station, connection to the remote heating system and a state-ofthe-art cooling system.
Energy efficiency and high environmental standards
The south façade of the Crystal Palace will feature integrated systems for production of electricity from solar energy. The electricity produced in this manner is environmentally friendly and will be in its entirety returned into the distribution network of the supplier, who will then sell it on the market as green energy.
The building will be connected to a remote heat supply system of Energetika Ljubljana. The technological process of energy generation with simultaneous production of thermal and electric energy enables the optimal utilization of the primary fuel, which represents the best option of fuel utilization for heating needs from the viewpoint of efficient use of energy. In addition, large energy plants are subject to higher environmental standards, the compliance with which results in lower pollution of the environment.
Moreover, other systems in the building have also been designed based on the newest standards of efficient energy use. The cooling system therefore features ice accumulators storing ice during the night, when more electric energy is available, and using it during the day for cooling the building.
In this way, the building will operate with a constant electric energy power and will thus not cause electric spikes and overload the distribution network, especially during the hot summer months. The consumption of energy for cooling will also be lower due to the installation of windows with the lowest factor of permeation of solar radiation.
Instead of using drinking water from the water supply network, the cooling towers will use rainwater, stored in a special pool in the basement.
The additional rationalization of energy products will be ensured by a central control system connecting all energy facilities at the Crystal Palace. The system will adapt the consumption of heat, coolness and electricity to the actual needs and current occupation of the building. |
